Some of the North-West Coast and West Coast’s best-known tourism icons will have a light shone on them this winter, literally.
Five sites at Penguin, Wynyard, Strahan, Queenstown and King Island will feature immersive light projections as part of the inaugural Illuminate the North-West Festival.
The State Government has provided $415,000 from its Tasmanian Festival and Event Support Fund, which assists regions to be showcased throughout the winter and shoulder seasons.
Illuminate the North West will run from May 1st to August 31st featuring a calendar of events across the region to support the illuminated icons.
West by North West Regional Tourism CEO Gabriella Conti says the sound and light shows will be complemented by micro-events in the local areas to help drive visitation.
Locations to be lit up during Illuminate North West will include the Penguin Uniting Church, the Table Cape Lighthouse at Wynyard, the Cape Wickham Lighthouse on King Island, the Customs House and Post Office at Strahan, and the Paragon Theatre at Queenstown.
